Did You Know These U.S. EVs are Made in China (2024)
China is a hot topic these days, especially now that the United States government -- at the time of this video publishing -- has imposed a 102.5% tariff on EVs imported from China.
But did you know that some EVs already on sale in the U.S. are made in China? We have a list of the ones that are, ones that are coming very soon that will be, and even some gas cars that are also built in China and sold in the United States.
🚨 Update: Volvo has stated it is delaying the EX30 until production in Ghent, Belgium is online. Story: go.evpulse.com/w6zC4zmbGKTc

    I own a '23 Pro, and the grumbling about the infotainment is a bit much. You get the hang of it very quickly. The weakest point is the "ID system" for media controls and VW's nav (which isn't great), but if you use Android Auto or Car Play, you won't be using the ID system much. Plus, they gave me a ridiculous deal on mine, which includes 3 years' free charging at EA stations. I'd love the bigger HP in the '24, but the '23 dual motor is every bit as quick as my old car - a '21 Jetta GLI. That's plenty quick enough.

    About how dirty is to produce an EV from time 2:15, yes the EV is not a produced with a clean process considering the entire chain. Mining is dirty and polluting, transport by large boats is also polluting (mind you, if mining is happening in China, the transport is not so far to the factory) and so on but I don't think it is worst than producing ICE cars. The steel is done with iron which is mined. China is producing over 50% of the world steel and have most of the mines. It doesn't make much difference whether we speak about iron, coal or other types of resources. Mining is polluting anyhow. I would say the main thing that makes the EV's dirtiest is the battery disposal and the fanct that replacement batteries are expensive and difficult to find and expensive to change. As such, one may change the whole car just because of the battery. This is where we need to work it out for the environment. Exchange batteries should be something easy. If the 1st owner don't want the car, the next owners should have the chance to change the battery in a convenient way. As it is, the EV cars will be scrapped just because of batteries that will start loosing their life and this is the big fault for the EVs

    Nice car, while I haven't driven this or the N - I see no reason to mimic an automatic - especially on the street. I never understood why a CVT needed 'gears' and see no reason why an electric car would need them either. Perhaps if I drove them it would make sense.

    The relationship between 'segments' on the battery capacity display, and actual % degradation is rather mysterious on the 2nd generation LEAF. My 2018 LEAF has around 87% battery capacity remaining and all of the 12 capacity bars. This is different from the earlier LEAF (up to 2017). I haven't been able to find a reliable source that explains this relationship definitively.

I'm talking about vandalizing EV chargers just to say: Look at me! For the fun of it. In essence, I HATE electric. Blogging it almost. I don't think oil companies are trying to undermine EV infrastructure. EV infrastructure (save Tesla) is just a national tragedy, tbo. Got an awesome sale between gov discounts and dealer discounts on my 2023 Escape PHEV (almost $19k CAD off). Can honestly say it’s exactly what I want living up in the north where the EV infrastructure is sparse and slow @50kw (or less) charging. Since I live in an apartment, couldn’t get the apartment owners to put in a 30+ amp EV plug-in to my parking, so the mix of a PHEV has been working perfectly too and from work, and 44mpg+ hybrid mode on long trips. I know people want to push EV, but people like us in the north for now just don’t have the infrastructure like big cities, and when you live in an apartment, you might not have a landlord willing to allow EV charging outside of 110v (even if you offer to pay). For me, I think PHEV is a good transition, whether it’s temporary as infrastructure and regulations still catch up or if it’s all a person needs/affords, I’m happy and would recommend for those unsure. Just wish PHEV’s would at least get 100km+ EV only mode, only get about 65km~ on daily trips.

    • @grandemage
      @grandemage 5 днів тому

      I will admit though, I do sometimes use the Escape’s generator mode to top up the battery on the way home or charge up at work instead. I’ve already had 1 PHEV 110v adaptor stolen from my vehicle in my apartment parking lot, so I do fall into the sometimes not fully utilizing my battery properly since I rarely charge over night at home. But that’s a property management issue of security and infrastructure for my apartment. I long for days when governments kind of strong arm property owners into retrofitting for EV’s outlets in our parking spots.

    I drove a BMW i3/range extender for 8 years . I used the motor once a month. I started it, let it run for 15 minutes, then turned it off. I adjusted my driving style to use the electric range of the i3. I used the motor a few times while driving, but, for the most part, carried the extra weight of the motor and premium fuel for nothing other than the peace of mind. Hybrids are not an answer. In the long run they are ridiculously expensive. You either go ICE or EV. I’m in favor of EV. It works for me. But, right now they are not for everyone. Unless they come down in price and the infrastructure is improved in this country like it is in other parts of the world, the EV automotive industry will be just spinning its wheels, so to speak.

    • @JohnSmith-uz3dt
      @JohnSmith-uz3dt 5 днів тому

      I think it depends on the question. If it’s to save the planet, hybrids are a step in the right direction. If there are 10 new car buyers, 3 EV, 3 ICE, and 4 who choose hybrid vehicles, it helps reduce the use of fossil fuels. I drive an EV for the convenience. I come home, plug in, and wake up to a full tank in the morning. I don’t have to stand in kitty litter because someone overfilled there tank. I don’t have to worry about my hands smelling like gasoline because gas was slopped on the handle. I don’t have to go inside when the “see cashier” if you want a receipt pops up on the screen. I don’t have to worry about my credit card getting skimmed. You are definitely correct for the reasons you cited. Electric vehicles are not for everyone. I guess it depends on why you choose to drive an EV.

      @@JohnSmith-uz3dtfor the very same reasons you explained. I’ve saved a ton of $$ since I swished over 3 years ago. Charging from home hasn’t affected my electric bill by much, plus here in AZ my registration is only $45 for 5 years, while new ICE vehicles will cost around $500 per year. Less each year as it gets older. I will never go back to drive an ICE car again. My next EV will hopefully have better range, faster charging times, and hopefully, by then, increased infrastructure. But, as EV enthusiasts, our biggest battle is against the filthy lies generated by the oil industry. Heaven forbid if they suffer a slight decline in their massive profit margin.

    I do like the idea of PHEVs, though I think I'm more of a fan of range extending type EVs. I hope that one, the other or both become more prevalent though as automakers realize perhaps pure EVs need a bit more gestation time before they are ready for true mass adoption.
